山形県「鶴岡、羽黒山、月山」Yamagata「Tsuruoka, HaguroSan/Gassan」

The three mountains located in Yamagata are a main point of tourism in Japan. Gadly, we didn't encounter that many foreigners. We were forced to use our Japanese ability in order to communicate, which was in fact better than we expected.

Haguro San, Gassan, and Yudono (not shown) are known as the Dewa Sanzan mountains. These have the olderst history of mountain worship in Japan. The mountains are a religious center with a history of over 1400 years. Prince Hachiko devoted his life to religious pursuits, which led to his worship of Haguro Gongen, the deity of the mountain.
