横浜市歌ーYokohama City's song

Picture
Another day in Japan, and another beautiful experience in Minato Mirai, located in the city of Yokohama, Kanto Region.

The weather this day was extremely windy (49 kph), and about 32 C. In this occasion, I had the opportunity to experience 盆踊り祭り「Bon dancing festival」
meaning simply Bon dance is a style of dancing performed during Obon. The music can be songs specifically connected to the spiritual message of Obon.Every Bon Festival will vary from region to region and Yokohama didn't miss to present an amazing show.

I was able to capture one of Yokohama's best songs. The song in the video here-under is entitled: "横浜市歌” aka Yokohama City's song.

It was created in 1909 by 森林太郎 (Ogai Mori). He was a Japanese Army Surgeon general officer, translator, novelist and poet. The lyrics are so beautiful that every person from this part of the country feels so proud of it's city.

This is how it starts:

わが日の本は島國よ 朝日輝ふ海に, which means: My Japan is an island, where every morning the sunrise illuminates the sea.

Please enjoy the video:

山形県「山形市・山寺」
Yamagata「Yamagata City・Yamadera」

Travelling in Japan can be extremely rewarding and this case was no exception. We started off by going to Yamadera in Yamagata prefecture, located in the Tohoku region.

This little city Yamadera, which means "Mountain Temple," features the Ryushaku-ji temple (立石寺).This gem was founded in 860 AD by the priest Ennin. The name of the temple mean "Standing Stones Temple" due to it's wind and water sculpted stones. It's a 1110 steps from the entrance to the complex all the way to the Oku-no-in sanctuary at the top. Everywhere in the temple area we found rock caves and oddly shaped rocks, eroded by the wind and water.

大和市相模原祭り

Picture
After several months in Japan, I haven't had the chance to experience much of Tokyo.

I'm currently working in of my favorite parts of the city, Sangen Jaya. However, last weekend I had the opportunity to experience a local matsuri near my place in Chuo Rinkan, located in the city of Yamato, Kanagawa prefecture.

Matsuri (祭) is the Japanese word for festival. In Japan, festivals are usually sponsored by local temples. It is also a way to show appreciation to the local deities who always bless the people. Also, matsuri is done for a good chance to revive our souls once a year or so in excitement away from our routine life. It brings you back to life. Listening to the taiko, and everyone enjoying their time in harmony.

Beautiful way to say thank you.
