Columbia University - getting accepted

PictureButler Library, Columbia University
Pretty much everyone knows already that I am doing my master's at Columbia University, but few of you know how difficult it was to be accepted at an IVY League University. On my previous post, I talked about my fears and doubts of staying in New York, I didn't write or explained what made me change my mind (will do on another post), but for the sake of it, let's say Columbia was one of the major reasons for not to leave.

Columbia University in the City of New York, top #8 in the world, USA colonial university, known for it's intense curriculum and high quality programs in Law, Business, Psychology, Journalism, Politics etc.

Getting in was a long but rewarding experience. It began as soon as I started working at For-side.com, where I decided to solely focus into getting into Columbia by either getting a job there and building my networking or getting accepted at a master’s program. I was doubtful about majoring in General Psychology or Cognition Studies and this doubt took me a year and a half making me worry about wasting time and money. However, later on I understood that waiting was what I needed in order to succeed. In this time, I learned how to "just do it" even though I was not getting responses back from professors, managers, leaders etc. I started by creating my own powerpoint presentation, making personalized emails to professors and managers, going to courses about "How to Get Things Done." among other things.

Thanks to Michael Suswal, in charge of publishing deals at For-side at the time, he started his own company, Sassafras Wholesale, where later on he offered me an ownership position at said company. I helped him by doing market research at street fairs and in exchange he would help me polish my Statement of Purpose for my application at Columbia. This process lasted around 6 months, I send my application, and three months later, I received my letter of acceptance!

I also want to use this space to share some of my research with you, therefore I will be uploading some work I have been doing (if you are still interested shoot me an email at contact at hectorq dot com). That first paper was my mid-term paper for my Cognition and Learning class, titled "Methods of Teaching and Studying." Thanks!
